Good Knights of New Mexico, Greetings!

I hope all is well and you have begun your summer plans. Your Grand York Rite is getting ready for many events coming up this year. Our next Grand York Rite Quarterly meeting will be at the Grand Lodge in Albuquerque on July 22, 2023. We have parts available in many degrees and orders coming up at the Land of Enchantment Festival (LOEF) to be held August 25-26, 2023 in Santa Fe. As always, if you have any questions on registration, please contact our Grand Recorder of myself. If you want to participate in any degree work, please contact our Junior Past Grand Commander, James Overfelt who is the degree director for LOEF. Later in the year you are welcome to participate at the following; Southwest Regional Conference in Salt Lake City UT, October 20-21, 2023 and Colorado River Fall Festival, October 22-24 in Laughlin NV.

Thank you all who attended an Ascension Day (Holy Thursday) service. I had the pleasure to attend the service at my local place of worship. Pastor John, who provided the service is not a Freemason, but I always find it interesting that he has something of a Masonic nature in his sermons. Particularly in the Ascension service I attended the Pastor spoke of the usual events leading up to the ascension and the suffering our Lord endured, but in his reading of the Gospel of Peter, I smiled when he quoted the following from the King James Bible:

1 Peter 2:6 “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.” This scripture had so much meaning to me. In the Shrine, semblance is made to the “black stone”, the same black stone placed in the corner of the temple at Mecca. And, of course, the cornerstone which we place the newest members of our fraternity at to remind them of their duties.

The second verse that caught my attention as a York Rite Mason was, 1 Peter 2:7 “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner”.

Be inspired my good Knights and go forth with your good works!
